Concrete Scanning and NDT Surveys Across the UK

NDTScan has completed concrete scanning, ultrasonic testing, and compressive strength surveys at sites across England, Wales, and Scotland. Our base in Oxfordshire means we reach most Thames Valley and South East locations within hours, but our work takes us nationwide. Thames Valley, Home Counties and the South East

The greatest concentration of our work sits across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, and Hertfordshire. We carry out a high volume of pre-drill GPR surveys on commercial office refurbishments in Reading, Slough, Maidenhead, and Bracknell, where post-tensioned concrete floors are common in 1980s and 1990s stock. In High Wycombe we have completed rebar mapping surveys on multi-storey car parks undergoing structural assessments prior to cladding replacement. At sites in Aylesbury, Thame, and Amersham we attend residential developments where slab reinforcement surveys are required ahead of core drilling. In Henley-on-Thames and Marlow we have completed pre-drill scanning at riverside commercial properties where slab documentation was unavailable.

GPR Concrete Scanning in Slough and the M4 Corridor

The dense concentration of commercial floorspace along the M4 corridor generates consistent demand for pre-drill scanning. We have completed surveys at business parks in Slough, Langley, and Cippenham using GSSI SIR 4000 and Mala GPR systems, producing AutoCAD-compatible rebar maps for structural engineers and fit-out contractors.

Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Testing in Buckinghamshire

We have used the Proceq Pundit PL-200 to carry out ultrasonic pulse velocity testing at several sites across Buckinghamshire, including a pre-war reinforced concrete water tower in Princes Risborough and a 1960s school building in Milton Keynes where compressive strength estimation was required as part of a structural condition survey.

London

We carry out a substantial volume of work across Greater London, from basement construction surveys in Kensington and Chelsea to post-tensioned slab scanning in City of London office cores. In Stratford and Canary Wharf we have completed surveys on large commercial floor plates ahead of fit-out. In Battersea and Vauxhall we have attended residential conversions where structural engineers required reinforcement mapping before inserting new openings through existing concrete shear walls.

GPR Scanning and Post-Tensioned Cable Detection in Westminster

We completed a GPR concrete scanning survey at a Grosvenor residential property in Westminster ahead of a basement lowering programme. The survey required identification of post-tensioned cables in existing ground floor slabs and mapping of service penetrations to inform the demolition sequence. Results were delivered the same day.

Compressive Strength Testing in Southwark

At a mixed-use development in Southwark, we completed a combined rebound hammer and SONREB compressive strength assessment on existing reinforced concrete columns, tested to BS EN 13791. The survey provided the structural engineer with confidence in the existing frame capacity ahead of a two-storey extension.

The Midlands

We attend sites in Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Leicester, Nottingham, and Derby regularly. Typical projects include pre-drill scanning on NHS Trust estates, rebar mapping for heritage building alterations, and RAAC identification surveys on local authority housing stock.

RAAC Identification Surveys in Birmingham and Coventry

We have completed RAAC identification surveys at a number of sites in Birmingham and Coventry using GPR to distinguish RAAC planks from standard reinforced concrete elements. GPR profiles through RAAC display a characteristic low-amplitude, diffuse return pattern. Results are reported with photographic evidence and annotated scan data.

Compressive Strength Testing at The Grosvenor, Chester

We carried out a combined rebound hammer and UPV compressive strength assessment at a Grosvenor-managed commercial property in Chester ahead of a change-of-use application. Testing covered ground floor columns and first floor flat slab construction, reported to BS EN 13791, with results delivered within 48 hours.

South Coast and South West

We cover Southampton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, and Bristol regularly. Work in this region includes marine infrastructure scanning at Southampton docks, pre-drill surveys at university buildings in Portsmouth, and compressive strength assessment on historic concrete structures in Bristol. We have also attended sites in Exeter and Plymouth for infrastructure renewal projects.

Ultrasonic Thickness Survey at Southampton Docks

We completed an ultrasonic thickness survey on reinforced concrete jetty soffit panels at a commercial berth in Southampton using the Olympus 38DL Plus. Access was by boat-mounted platform at low water. Results identified localised thinning consistent with chloride-induced reinforcement corrosion, allowing the asset owner to prioritise repairs.

East of England and Cambridge

Cambridge generates consistent NDT demand from the university estate and the commercial science park sector. We have completed GPR surveys on a number of university buildings, including pre-drill scanning in Grade II listed buildings where the structural form was poorly documented. In Peterborough we have attended industrial units for pre-anchor scanning ahead of mezzanine floor installations.

The North

We travel to Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, and Liverpool for projects that require our specific equipment or reporting standards. Northern projects have included post-tensioned slab surveys on commercial towers in Manchester, rebar density assessment on a 1960s multi-storey car park in Leeds, and SONREB compressive strength surveys on a concrete frame warehouse in Sheffield.

Scotland and Wales

We attend sites in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Cardiff for clients with national programmes or where our specific capabilities are not available locally. Work has included GPR surveys on tenement conversions in Edinburgh, compressive strength testing in Glasgow city centre, and pre-drill scanning in Cardiff and Newport.
